Lucky us, we managed to find a friendly bus driver at the station who directed us to the elephant sanctuary, the Malay tourist brochures are rubbish! we had to get the bus to Lanchang and then were were told to 'just ask in a road side shop' and 'someone' will give you a lift to the sancturay?!?!? Oh my god!
So thats what we did :) we got the bus. 6rm for 1hour. got off in Lanchang and went to buy a drink in a shop where, sure as, the first person to see us asked where we were going (the obviously dont get many 'white' people in those parts) After some food and a drink we got in the car and he took us to the sancturat, 60rm return, we could stay as long as we wnated and he would pick us up later :)? so we checked it out and asked him to meet us at 3pm.....
the sanctuary wasnt what i would exactly call a sancturay but we watched a video about how they are saving animals from built up village areas and transporting them to the rainforest/jungle in the north of the country. After a bit of a wait we were able to feed the elephants, watch them have a bath and then the three of us had a ride on a big ones back :) very wobbly and spikey hair but it was pritty cool. We could have bathed with thm but we didnt go prepared and it didnt look very clean so we headed back to meet our taxi man :)
The sancturay was free, we were supposed to leave a donation, but it wasnt till we got back to the bus stop that i realisd we had forgotten, oooopsss?! We headed back to Bentong, had some chinese (of sorts) food and then just chilled in the room agin to get up n get the early bus to the cameron highlands :)
